I am a consultant breast cancer surgeon working in Delhi. My earlier surgical training for breast cancer had helped me master the basic surgical skills to perform procedures like mastectomies and simple breast conservation surgeries. Over the last decade, surgical management of breast cancer has evolved very significantly. Incorporation of various oncoplastic breast surgical techniques has enabled the breast surgeons worldwide in carrying out breast conservation procedures in patients who were earlier considered to be unsuitable. These techniques enable the surgeons to offer oncologically safe and cosmetically pleasing outcomes of breast cancer surgeries. I was passionate to learn these techniques. This MCh course in breast oncoplasty has helped me enhance my skills at different breast oncoplastic surgical procedures. It has inculcated in me the habit of reading on a regular basis and to keep my knowledge updated about the recent advances in this field. The weekly assignments are very stimulating. They encourage us to think rationally to come up with the best management plan for any given scenario. During the workshops the students get an opportunity to interact with the British and the Indian faculty members. These interactions are very friendly and helpful. The students are encouraged to participate in the multidisciplinary case presentations. Our batch includes students who are in different stages of their careers and hail from different locations in India and abroad. Our daily interactions on the assignment portal and our meetings during the workshops have created a special bond among us. This course has immensely helped me upgrade my surgical skills and strengthen my understanding of breast cancer management. I will surely recommend this course to breast surgeons who wish to enhance their skills.
